Leon (Llion in Leonese Language) is a province of north western Spain, in the north western part of the autonomous community of Castile and Leon. The historic leonese kingdom was integrated by the autonomous communities of Asturias and Galicia, and the provinces of Leon Zamora, Salamanca, Valladolid, Palencia and many other territories in Extremadura and northwest of andalusian province of Huelva. Leon province is bordered by the provinces of Zamora, Ourense, Lugo, Asturias, Cantabria, Palencia, and Valladolid. About one quarter of its population of 496,655 (2005) lives in the capital, Leon. The weather is dry, cold during the winter. There are Roman Catholic cathedrals at Leon and Astorga. The province shares the Parque Nacional Picos de Europa (in the Picos de Europa mountain range) with Cantabria and Asturias.
